8 weeks & nanny search
happy 8 weeks, maki! oh my, he is getting big! *tears* he smiles a
lot more these days esp in the mornings. i love those moments. his
smile really melts my heart! when i finally hear him laugh, i don't
know what i'm going to do. ha! his legs and neck are getting strong.
he kicks a lot. he can also lift his head 90 degrees when on the
boppy.
i've been dreading this moment but we started the nanny search this week. we used word of mouth, craigslist and sittercity.com (they do background checks). being a nanny in NYC is no joke! the good ones get paid starting from $650 per week, get 2 weeks paid vacation plus any vacation employers take, paid federal holidays, paid monthly unlimited metro card, 3-5 sick days and time and a half for extra hours (nights & weekends)... and most are paid under the table! it's nutsos... some of the nannies i talked to were so demanding too. whaaat?!!!! only in new york... bec there are so many super rich families paying nannies prob more than what i make!
after looking at almost 100 nannies online and talking to about a dozen nannies plus their references, we ended up interviewing 4 nannies this weekend... supposed to be 5 but last one texted after she's already late that she couldn't make it - FAIL! i don't know if mik and i are easy to please but we liked 3 out of the 4! is that lucky or what! but we narrowed it down to 2 filipinos (3rd one is from trinidad). we really want a filipino nanny who shares the same family values and morals, teach maki tagalog and cook us filipino dinner! one is named rose and the other is maria. both are in my full name. must be fate! ;) it's hard to pick from the two so i'm doing a trial day (5 hrs only) with them this week. i want to see how they interact with maki and if they take direction/follow instructions. mik said i should have them cook me lunch. ha!
i'm uneasy about the thought of leaving my baby with anyone so i need to be strict with this process (i'm also getting copies of their IDs, utility bill, passport/resident card, etc). after this trial period, they'll be part-time asap (like 2 days per week) then full-time for 1-2 weeks before i go back to work so maki and i can bond with her before i finally leave her alone with him (mid-june)!
will update you once nanny selection is done.... more pics of maki soon! :)
