ENTER THE DRAGON
a week ago from today, i gave birth to the most beautiful baby boy. malakai lucas aguilar was born at 7:28 am last sunday, march 11, 2012. he was 6 lbs 6 oz and 19.25 inches long. he was born in ny-presbyterian/weill cornell hospital in new york city.

the moniker malakai (pronounced MAL-a-kye) means "messenger of God". it is a biblical name for a prophet/writer of the final book of the old testament. we wanted a name that isn't common, has a good meaning and sounds strong. i already explained in another blog entry that lucas is a family name. here's a fun tidbit - if you combine malakai and lucas together, you get "malakas" which means "strong" in tagalog (filipino language). he has many nicknames already - mak, maki (ma-kee) and m'kai. (ma-kai). just don't call him kai - i don't like it. ;) my mom came up with maki which is perfect because papa is a skilled swaddler and the baby ends up looking like a sushi roll. haha
the whole family (wow i have a family!) is doing great... despite the lack of sleep. we spent our first night at home on tuesday after spending 2 nights at cornell. tita yuri picked us up at the hospital - so nice of her! it was very nice to bring him home. we definitely felt ready for him.
i'll blog about labor, delivery and postpartum later... not ready to relive it again. i definitely didn't know what to expect and hope i can write about it before i forget all the details!
mik and i are both so overwhelmed with love for this tiny being... we find ourselves just staring at him all day. he has so many cute facial expressions - even the frowning/crying ones are adorable! i love it when he smiles and the other night he had a laughing fit. it melted my heart (even at 3am). he has definitely turned our world upside down but only for the better. welcome malakai lucas! mama and papa absolutely adore you!
