thanks obama!
i own a medela pump in style advanced backpack which i leave at work. i rent a hospital-grade medela symphony that i keep at home. outside of new york city, i guess most mothers would only need one pump because they most likely drive to work and can keep it in their cars. i only work 5 blocks from home but i refuse to lug a pump everyday! i rented my symphony for 3 months (~$250) and my last day is on 9/1. i've been wondering what i would do then. would i buy another pump in style advanced (~$270 + tax) or extend my rental? if i extend my rental, how long would i extend to? a friend told me that insurance companies are now required to cover breast pumps if deemed a medical necessity by the dr. what's my medical reason? working mama. i contacted edgepark and tried to get a symphony. they told me that my insurance denied it... but they would cover a pump in style advanced. so thanks to obama care, i got a new pump for $18 copay! woohoo! insurance companies will cover formula and lactation consultations too with a dr's prescription. i ordered nutramigen formula for maki's dairy sensitivity. still waiting to hear if it got approved by the insurance. crossing fingers and toes.....
