happy 4 months!
my baby love turned 4 months yesterday. *sigh* someone please stop the clock! he loves reaching for his toes, trying to sit up, standing up (supported of course) and pulling mama's hair - which is an issue because my hair is falling out like crazy lately! argh! everyone told me this would happen because during pregnancy, didn't lose much hair so all that hair i saved are now falling out. it's scary! :(
we had a dr's appt yesterday morning. he weighs 16 lbs 7 oz and is 26 inches long. he is in the 68th percentile for weight, 50th for head size and 85th percentile for height! whoa tall baby! whose kid is this?!!! haha. dr kercher was amazed at how strong maki's neck is and how high his head is while on tummy. she said he's at a 6-month old baby level now! YAY! julie came too - she's part of the family now - and she voices her concerns during the appts (and she has a lot). i had so many questions and dr kercher answered them all:
BLOOD IN POOP:
the recent blood in maki's poop is due to a fissure so it's not because of what i ate (i always blame myself first). poor baby has a booboo on his butt! i didn't see it when i looked and it's a decent size. :( we have to apply ointment on it 2x a day.
TRAVEL TO THE WEST COAST:
she said it's safe for him to travel now that he's had this 4-month shots. as far as his schedule goes, we'll try to adjust him to CA time. when we get back, it will take 1-2 days to adjust again. she said no sunblock until 6 months (woops - i applied sunblock on him once before)!
SOLIDS:
she doesn't want him eating solids until 6 months to prevent allergies. besides, chubby cheeks doesn't need solids now!
EATING:
she's not concerned that he's not eating as much as long as it's at least 24 oz. she thinks he is teething so 2.5 ml baby tylenol is ok if he's not eating enough or is crying. she doesn't want us to give him baby orajel.
SWADDLING:
it's not safe to swaddle anymore since he can potentially rollover now so we'll start weaning him off by letting his arms out first and not swaddling during naps.
PREFERS LEFT SIDE/HAND:
she doesn't see neck tightness but she said we should stimulate him so he uses the right side as well. so if we put him on the changing table one way, we need to turn him around sometimes. if he's sleeping facing left, we should move his face to the other side. play with him so he uses his right hand.
NAPPING IN THE SWING:
he's getting too big to be napping in the swing so she wants us to start transitioning him to the crib, which we started this week.
RASH BEHIND LEFT EAR:
she doesn't think it's eczema but too young to tell. she said to put on aquaphor and if it doesn't get better in a week, put on 1% hydrocortisone cream 2x a day.
last night maki had a 103.5 fever (after his 2-month vaccinations, he got a fever then too). but a couple of hours after giving him baby tylenol, he was fine. we let him sleep on the bed with us though. i wanted to be next to him and check him from time to time. he was so happy to be sleeping with us! he smiled before going to bed and smiled when he woke up. melted ours hearts... he had a fever again today but not as bad (102). julie gave him baby tylenol a couple of times. she said he was not in a good mood all day and barely napped. he ate a good amount today though. he's sleeping in his crib now but i may want to sleep with him again!!! when i got out of the shower this morning, saw maki sleeping next to mik and it was one of my favorite moments...
we had a small photo shoot early yesterday morning. i wanted to take his pics before the dr's appt since he'll prob sleep all day because of the shots. but it's hard to take pics on him sitting on the couch now. he's so wiggly, constantly moving and trying to tackle the stuffed toys! here are some of his pics:
