... and he's WALKING!!!
lately maki doesn't want to do anything but take my finger so i can walk him around the house or outside. every waking moment - unless he's eating - he wants to hold my finger and we go from the living room or dining area to his bedroom then to papa's office then back to the living room and then repeat. i've been so tired because he does this non-stop and he doesn't want anyone else walking him. mik and i have been standing him up (he can't stand without holding onto something first then letting go) and encouraging him to "walk", but he's so cautious and immediately goes back down on the floor. he has taken a step here and there and two days ago, he took 3 steps without his diaper on. so we knew it was just a matter of time before he started walking.
this afternoon, i showed him a youtube video of an 8-month baby girl taking her first steps. a few minutes later, i was watching him from several feet away, he just stood up from the floor while holding his snack cup in one hand and started walking!!!!!!!! WHOA! i called out to mik - as softly as i could so as not to startle the baby - to get out of the bedroom so he could witness it with me. we both watched him do it again. i started crying and hugging maki.... and i looked over at mik and he was in tears too. we were so happy and proud. can't forget this moment.
maki tried again and again several times.... with the snack cup in one hand... and fast and furious, not slow and cautious. with toddlers, they repeat until they master something. it's going to take him a while to master walking but i'm looking forward to watching him do it. i'm ecstatic that he started walking but a little piece of me is sad that my baby is growing up... :(
here's a video of maki's first time standing up from the floor and walking!
first step: april 27
first 3 steps: may 8
first time standing up on his own and walking: may 10
today we went to a nearby park and maki was crawling all over the place. he didn't even want to take my finger. strange! haha. we let him go down the slide for the first time by himself. he loved it. today was his first taste of independence. well, besides, sleeping in his own room starting when he was about 11 weeks old!
