R train to chinatown

after 6 months and 11 days, maki finally took the nyc subway.  we wanted to give his 6-month vaccinations 1 week to be effective before we took him for his first ride.  subways are gross and dirty and i didn't want to expose him to that too early.  we took the R train to chinatown for some dim sum.  i've been craving it and now that i can eat soy and dairy, we could finally go.  it was sooo yummy - def hit the spot!  on the way back home, maki fell asleep because we were a little late for his 1pm nap.  :(  if i could, i would have slept too from eating too much!

maki started on peas last thursday.  he doesn't love it but he eats it.  i don't think this baby will refuse any food!  we're starting him on veggies and grains (and avocado) for his first month before moving on to fruits.  i hope he likes veggies like his papa.  i was planning his solid foods calendar...  i'm so excited for him!  we're doing the 3-4 day wait rule just in case he has any allergic reaction to anything.  here's the plan:

week 1: brown rice cereal, peas
week 2: avocado, oatmeal
week 3: sweet potato, green beans
week 4: butternut squash, zucchini
week 5: pear, apple
week 6: banana, peach
week 7: mango...

right now he's eating solids twice a day (30-60min after his 7:30am and 11:30am feedings).  i absolutely can't wait to see his face when he starts on fruits next month.  he's going to love it!

here are some recent pics of the little guy:

first time on the subway - it was perfect (there's a sleeping asian lady and a tourist)

waiting for the NRQ train to go back for his nap

maki fell asleep!  he was too full from his bottle + peas :)
